About Us

We only do life once. That’s why we want to capture what we’ve learned so we can pass it along to those that come behind us.  Over the past couple of years the truth that life is but a vapor has become particularly potent in our lives.  Life is speeding up, and I want to take good notes (see “Ham-buh-burger won’t last” for more).

When we write these posts, we have two audiences in mind:

Primary Audience - the Kiddos.  Our kids are experiencing the impact of some intentional choices that are part of larger picture.  We want them to understand the context and process that has gone into those choices.  Our hope is that they will see us with the clay feet we have and understand that any measure of success or goodness in our life is from God.  Time has a tendency to simplify and romanticize seasons in our life.  I’m hoping a micro-narrative will avoid that veneer.

Secondary Audience - You.  Our hope is that you will take comfort, be encouraged, and at times challenged to look at your life and pass along the lessons that you’ve learned.  We welcome your input and feedback and would love for you to be a part of what shapes the thoughts and perspectives on this site.

About Milo (written by Bethany)
Milo is one of the strongest people I know.  He loves God, his Family, and the world around him.  He’s provided a good balance of play and discipline for our kids, who can’t wait for him to come home from work.  He lights up when he has the chance to learn about how God is invading the lives of the people he meets.  If you have the chance to sit down with him, you’ll learn that he’s “strong coffee.”

About Bethany (written by Milo)
We are blessed to have Bethany in our lives.  She’s a wonderful wife, mother and hostess.  Our home is a place of rest, learning, celebration, and good eating because of the intentional atmosphere she has created.  Her writings come from an honest place that is continually being changed by the work God is doing in her heart.

How we see things
For some, our writings will seem uber-spiritual/religious.  For others, they won’t be spiritual/religious enough.  We’re learning to be okay with that.  The longer we live, we find that there are fewer things we are certain of.  The following is the Apostle’s Creed which is a good summation of our beliefs.  These beliefs shape our life, how we view the world, and serve as a filter for the values in our life.  I’m hanging my hat on this:

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day He rose from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
